Emile G. Schmidt, Sr.

Emile G. Schmidt, Sr. passed away on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at the age of 95 years. Beloved husband of the late Lorraine Menge Schmidt. Son of the late Henry Jac Schmidt and Laura Sherman Schmidt. Brother of the late Irvin, Alvin, Lawrence, Courtney Schmidt Estopinal and Helen Schmidt Fabre. Survived by his 5 children Lorraine Ann Schmidt Steber, Beverly Schmidt, Laura Schmidt Drennan (Wayne), Victoria Schmidt Nicosia and Emile G. Schmidt, Jr. (Lynn), and a niece, Carolyn Pierce Kass (Buddy). Also survived by 12 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. Emile proudly served his country during World War II in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged as Chief Petty Officer. He retired from the Times Picayune as a press room foreman after 37 years of employment. He was a New Orleans native and lived most of his life on the Westbank. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass in the Chapel of MOTHE FUNERAL HOMES, 2100 Westbank Expy., Harvey, LA on Tuesday, July 19, 2016 at 11AM. Visitation will be from 9 AM until 11 AM. Interment McDonoghville Cemetery, 520 Hancock St., Gretna, LA.
