Eric Charles Viering passed away of a brain tumor glioblastoma on November 1, 2014 at the age of 55 years. Beloved son of the late Henry Paul Viering and Pearl Hauffe Viering. Brother of Carol Hourcade (Stephen), Paulette Carlin (Robert), Stephen Viering (Lisa), Russell Viering and special “brother” to Bonnie Fletcher (Terry Gros). Uncle of Amy, Allie, Jack, Jennifer, Emma, Melissa and the late Stephen. Also survived by many loving relatives and friends.
Eric graduated from Archbishop Shaw High School in 1978. After working as an electrician, he returned to school and graduated from U.N.O. with his degree in Electrical Engineering. He worked for many years with Penta and was a member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 130. He later worked as an embedded software engineer with Mentor Graphics in Mobile, AL. In addition to his career, he was a talented woodworker and loved working with robotics which brought him to recognition as “Best Mentor of the Year, 2010” for Jubilee B.E.S.T. Robotics. He was a member of the Mobile Bay Area Backyard Chicken Club and was once a member of Explorer Scout Post #440. Eric was a kind, loving and talented man and will be missed by all who knew and loved him. The family extends their gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff who cared for him and also to Passages Hospice for their kindness and compassion.
