Estelle Verret Hymel, passed away peacefully at the age of 91 on June 12, 2023.

Estelle was the devoted wife to the love of her life, Edward Leo Hymel, Sr. for 70 years. Beloved mother to her ten children, Pauline (the late Richard), the late Paula Taravella, Edward Hymel, Jr. (Barbara), Elizabeth LeCarpentier (Charlie), Dennis Hymel, Felix Hymel, Janice Terrebonne (Mike), Donald Hymel (Dana), Rhonda Hymel, Renee Bladsacker (Lou). Proud MawMaw to 17 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Anne and Samson Verret, Sr., her siblings, Richard Verret, Samson Verret, Jr., Sarah Louviere, MaryAnne Ciaccio, Ruth Owens, & Esther Bauman.

Estelle was born and raised in Raceland, Louisiana where she resided until moving to Gretna as a teenager. She was a resident of Harvey for the last 61 years. She retired from West Jefferson Medical Center after 12 years of service, after retirement she and Edward spent their time traveling the country on many bus trips with friends. She also enjoyed her yearly ladies trips to Mexico. She was a member of the Maplewood Civic Association. As a devout catholic, she was a parishioner, lector, and Eucharistic minister at Infant Jesus of Prague Church. Because of her distinguished contribution to the church she was a recipient of the Order of St. Louis IX award.

She was a wonderful cook who always knew just how much food to prepare for her ever-growing family, a gardener, a talented cross stitcher and seamstress.

But above all her greatest joy was being surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, especially for weekly Sunday Dinner.  She never missed a special event and was always proud of our accomplishments no matter how big or small. Her unconditional love was one of her greatest attributes.

Our family would like to send a heartfelt thank you to Kim Marshall for her compassionate care and dedication to our beloved mother and grandmother in her final months.

If you wish to make a donation in memory of Estelle, in lieu of flowers, they can be made to Infant Jesus of Prague church on her behalf as they continue to recover from Tornado damage.
