Felicia Rita Trupiano Ditta died on Saturday, October 19, 2013 at 5 a.m. at her home in Harvey. She was born on December 8, 1915 to Jack Trupiano and Laura Taravella. She grew up in Harvey with her three sisters where she lived for the duration of her life. She was married to Carlo John Ditta on November 16, 1932 and was the proud and devoted mother of Joseph Carol Ditta, deceased (Rose Grilletta (deceased), Phyllis Ann Ditta, Lillian Ditta Uhl (John), Roslyn Rita Ditta (Rusty Gaudė.) She was the proud grandmother of Carlo Ditta (Natalia), Phyllis Gildea, Shelly Doucet (Todd), Melanie Andrews, Laura Stefani, Richard Andrews, Eugenia Rebeck (David), Alexis Andrews, Nicole Ciaccio (Michael), Rachel LaNasa (Philip), Natalie Leslie (Jerred), Joseph Ditta, Truman Woolfolk, Loretta Woolfolk , and Felicia Lomonoco (Nathan). She is also survived by 30 great grandchildren, one sister, Anna Canazzaro (Lennie), 7 godchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Mrs. Ditta was the co-founder and CEO of Carlo Ditta Inc, a company she and her husband began in 1934. In 1962, she took over the reigns of the company alone and oversaw the company’s expansion to all corners of the city. A life long resident of the Westbank, Mrs. Ditta never hesitated to lend a helping hand in her community. A member of the Catholic Daughters Association since 1935, she served as an advisory Board Member of the Hope Haven Center,a member of the Ladies Lukemia society, Secretary of La Fete, supporter of Infant Jesus of Prague and the New Orleans Ballet. In 2004, she received the Hope Haven Madonna Manor Humanitarian Award from Governor Kathleen Blanco for her hard work and commitment to abused and neglected children. She was a wonder at gathering community support for a project and was always generous with her time. An avid golfer, traveler and family woman, Mrs. Ditta will be missed and remember for her generosity, warm-heartedness, joy and love.
The family would like to extend special thank you to the numerous caretakers who loving and tirelessly took care of Mrs. Ditta for over 7 years. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at St. Joseph Church at 610 Sixth Street in Gretna on Tuesday, October 22, 2013. Visitation will be from 1:30 pm to 3:00 pm with the Mass at 3:00 pm at the church. The internment will be held at West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Gretna. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Jay and Rose Ditta Scholarship fund at Holy Cross College, Hope Haven Center, Catholic Charity or a charity of your choice.
