Floyd A. Gegenheimer

Floyd A. Gegenheimer, a devout Catholic, entered into eternal life on Thursday, January 21, 2016, after complications from congestive heart failure.
Cherished husband of Olive Becnel Gegenheimer for fifty-nine years. Beloved father of Elizabeth LeSaicherre (Ralf Jr.), Gordon (Julia), Scott (Trisha), Stewart (Teri), and Gerard (Kristy). Grandfather of Kevin (Sommer), Andrew (Ashley), and Kelsey LeSaicherre; Sara, Jacob, Claire, Jessica, Steven, and Amy Gegenheimer. Great-grandfather of Avery LeSaicherre. Son of the late Terrance William and Agnes Spies Gegenheimer. Brother of Raymond and the late Terrance, John, Carl, James, Bernard, Gordon, and Catherine Gegenheimer. Floyd was born June 4, 1931, in Gretna, LA, and graduated from St. Aloysius High School (Brother Martin) and Loyola University. He was employed by LP&L (Entergy) for forty-one years and was instrumental in designing and programming their computer systems. He dedicated his life to his family and God. As a parishioner of St. Andrew the Apostle for over fifty years, he served as lector, Parish Council President, and Eucharistic Minister, and was most devoted to the Ministry for Homebound Parishioners, where he not only brought communion, but spent time visiting and comforting those who were confined to their homes. Floyd was extremely involved with Manresa Retreats for more than fifty years. As Captain of Manresa Group #32 for many years, he took great pride in getting to know each retreatant and helping them have the best retreat experience possible. Visitation will be held Monday, January 25, 2016, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 2100 Westbank Expy., Harvey, LA. Visitation will also be held Tuesday, January 26, 2016, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at St. Andrew the Apostle Church, 3101 Eton St., New Orleans, LA, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, 1225 Whitney Ave., Terrytown, LA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Manresa House of Retreats in Convent, LA, or the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
