Francis “Skip” X. Barrett, Jr., age 65 and a resident of Pass Christian, MS, died on Thursday, November 21, 2013, in Biloxi.
Skip was a lifelong resident of Gretna, LA and moved to Pass Christian in September 2005. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran and a brakeman and conductor for T.P. and M.P. and Union Pacific Railroads. He was a member of the United Transportation Union 1337 Alumni Association, President and Founder of Skip’s Wild Irish Clan, Past Commander of the American Legion Post 218 in Algiers, LA, a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans, R.W. Veal #5 Chapter in Gulfport, MS, Past Grand Knight of MSG. Leech Council 4472 of the Knights of Columbus in Pass Christian, present member of the Knights of Columbus Council 4898 and the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree Association 1719, both in Long Beach, MS, and previous owner of Skip’s Mardi Gras Pub and Restaurant, Jomtien Beach Resort in Thailand. Skip loved animals, especially his dog, Buddy. Skip also enjoyed fishing and his Irish heritage. He traveled all over the world and lived in Thailand for a year.
He was preceded in death by his father, Francis X. Barrett; his mother, Libarine H. Barrett and a daughter, Kathleen E. Barrett.
Skip is survived by his daughter, Colleen B. Crane; his grandchildren; and his siblings, Donald Barrett, Gerald Barrett, and Mary Brand.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, November 25, 2013, at 11am at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Long Beach, where family and friends may visit two hours prior to the service.
There will be a wake on Monday, November 25, 2013, from 6pm-9pm at Mothe Funeral Home, 1300 Vallette Street, in New Orleans, LA.
