Frank Paul Mineo

Frank P. Mineo, a native New Orleanian and retired civil engineer, was born on January 6, 1930 and passed away peacefully on June 23, 2012 at the age of 82. He was a resident of Lafayette for the past 4 years. He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Mary Mine Mineo, also of New Orleans. He was a quiet, kind and patient loving father of seven children and their spouses: Donna Maria Fitzgerald DeJean and husband, Ken; Robert Jude Mineo and his wife, Laure; Sylvia Marian Oats and husband Stephen; Mary Beth Chevalier and husband Fred; Marianne Call and husband Lance; Julie Marie Harth and husband Peter; and Brigid Mary Guillory and husband John. He was also a devoted grandfather to eight grandchildren: Andrew Fitzgerald and wife Jill; Jonathan Mineo; Kyle Mineo; Jeremy Call and wife Sarah; Lauren Call; Adam Harth; Sean Guillory and Seth Guillory. He is also survived by a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jeanne and John Dan Mineo and one brother, Dan Mineo, Jr. He was involved in numerous community service organizations in New Orleans and was recognized for his dedicated service in the American Legion Post 218 as a District Commander, the Alhambra as a Caravan Commander, the Knights of Columbus Council 1724 as a Grand Knight and the Forty & Eight as a Chef de Gard. For decades, he was an annual supporter of the Louisiana Boys and Girls State programs and was a member of St. Andrews the Apostle Church for 50 years. He graduated from Martin Behrman High School, served in the Korean War in the Army, graduated from LSU in Civil Engineering and worked for nearly 50 years for the U.S. Coast Guard, the Orleans Levee Board, and with private contractors. He was recognized for his engineering expertise on the building and maintenance of Coast Guard stations, lighthouses, channel markers and other aids to navigation. The U.S. Coast Guard recognized his outstanding performance with awards related to hurricane protection. Throughout his career, he left a permanent mark benefiting society in the form of completed roads, bridges and buildings. As one of Frank’s long-time dear friends said, “Everything he did, he did in earnest.” One of his greatest pleasures was watching every LSU football and baseball game, as a long-time loyal fan and alum. He will be missed by all who knew him. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Andrew’s the Apostle Church, Eton Street, New Orleans, on Saturday, June 30 with visitation starting at 9:30 a.m. The American Legion will say prayers at 10:00 a.m; the Knights of Columbus Santa Maria Council 1724 will lead the rosary at 10:30 a.m. and the Mass will begin at 11 a.m. Interment will immediately follow at St. Louis Cemetary, No. 3, Esplanade Avenue, New Orleans, LA. The family extends a special thanks to Dr. Jay Jaikishen, the staff and residents of Garden View Assisted Living Facility, Hospice of Acadiana and caregivers Frank and Debra Taylor and Sylvia Guillory for their extraordinary care of our father.
