Gabriel “Gabe” Bergeron passed away on October 19, 2012 at the age of 96 years. Beloved husband of the late Mary Sampey Bergeron. Father of Leon Bergeron (Jill Schnieder), Charlie Bergeron (Vicki), Louis Bergeron (Belinda), Cindy Becker (Eugene) and the late Gabriel Bergeron, Jr. Brother of Doris Berger, the late Beatrice Cambre, Bella Dantin, Flossie Bourgeois and Emerson Bergeron. Son of the late Anita Zeringue Bergeron and Charley Bergeron. Devoted grandfather of 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and preceded in death by his grandson, Kyle Bergeron. The family would like to express their gratitude to his granddaughter, Rebecca Bergeron and the staff of Notre Dame Hospice, especially, Beverly, Barbara and Deacon Les Vincent for their love, compassion and support through this difficult time.
Gabe was a U.S. Navy veteran who served during World War II. He achieved the rank of Radioman 3rd Class and served aboard the U.S.S. LeHardy (DE-20). He later worked for Celotex, retired as a pipefitter from Avondale Shipyards after 30 years of service and was a member of VFW Post in Avondale.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Holy Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Bridge City, LA on Wednesday, October 24, 2012 from 10 AM to 12 Noon. A Funeral Mass will follow. Interment will take place at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Mausoleum in Westwego.
