Gary Michael Buras

Gary M. Buras, age 84, passed away on June 29, 2023. Loving husband of Janice Parker Buras for 54 years of marriage. Father of Michael Buras (Michele) and Mandy Buras-Buie (Corey). Grandfather of Taylor Buras and Claire Buie. Gary was born on March 3, 1939 in Buras, LA to the late Vera Ragas Buras. Brother of Jolene Moore (Thomas). He is also survived by many loved nieces, nephews, cousins, and godchildren. Gary retired from Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office as Chief Deputy after serving in law enforcement for over 30 years. He served in the United States Army 101^st Airborne “Screaming Eagles” Division . Gary was known in high school for his outstanding achievements in football as a 5 year letterman and named four times to the All-State Football Team. He was the former owner of the Buras Feed Store and a member of the Knights of Columbus #4033. Gary was always laughing, joking, and treating others as he would like to be treated. His main goal in life was to serve others. He loved to fish, hunt, and cook. He previously enjoyed owning and riding horses since he was the owner and operator of a horse stall. Family was Gary’s passion and God was his guide. He will be deeply missed by everyone. Friends and family are invited to attend a funeral mass on Saturday, July 8, 2023 at 11AM at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 8968 LA-23, in Belle Chasse, LA. Visitation will begin at 9AM.
