Gary “Jap” Griffin, a four time Golden Club Boxing Champion and National Boxing Champion peacefully entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at the age of 65. Former husband of Sonia B. Gaspard. Son of the late Thomas Adam Griffin, Sr. and Dorothy Madalyn Suarez Griffin. Father of Tara Griffin. Grandfather of Trinity Williams. Brother of Shirley Detillier (the late Milton), Donald Griffin (Glendy), Elaine Dantin (the late Raymond), Thomas Griffin, Jr. (the late Katherine), Ronald Griffin, Doris Sanchez (the late Lawrence), Raymond Griffin (the late Jacqueline), Steven Griffin (Julie), Cynthia Breaux (Blaine), Linda Schouest (the late Donald) and the late Jerome Griffin and David Griffin. God father of Brandi Griffin. Gary is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was born in New Orleans, raised in Westwego and a resided in Avondale, LA. Gary was a trainer at Avondale Boxing Club. He was the first American Boxer to beat the Russians. He was also inducted into the Westwego Hall of Fame for Boxing. Besides Boxing, Gary enjoyed shooting pool and playing cards. Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation at MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 7040 Lapalco Blvd., Marrero, LA on Wednesday, November 8, 2017 from 10AM until 1:30PM. Funeral Services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 1:30PM. Interment will be in Restlawn Park Cemetery, Avondale, LA.
