Gary Michael Guidry

February 7, 1954 — November 6, 2024

Westwego

Gary Michael Guidry, beloved husband, Dad, G-Pop, and brother, entered peacefully into Heaven at the age of 70, on November 6, 2024. He was surrounded by his loved ones in the comfort of his home. He fought a courageous battle against cancer for seven years with unmatched grace and courage. Born on February 7, 1954, Gary spent his life dedicated to his family, leaving behind a legacy of love and laughter. Survived by his loving and devoted wife of 44 years, Darlene Albarado Guidry, and their children: Melissa Snell (Daniel), Bradley Guidry (Sarah), Ashley Escher (Eric), and Alexandra Guidry (Daniel). Gary was a proud grandfather to Molly, Daniel, Dominic, Eli, Luke, Abram, Anthony, Micah, Belle, Lily, and Silas. He is also survived by his siblings Joe Guidry (Carol), Darin Guidry (Donna), and Lauren Addison (Jeff), as well as his mother-in-law Jewel Albarado and sisters-in-law Donna Byrnes (the late Tommy), Anna Jouandot (David) and a large extended family of nieces, nephews, as well as many dear friends. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Charmaigne Guidry Elgiar and Joseph Philip Guidry, Jr., and his brother Craig Guidry. Gary was born in New Orleans, Louisiana and resided in Metairie through his early years. He graduated from East Jefferson High School and furthered his education at the University of New Orleans. He was a resident of Westwego, Louisiana for over 40 years. He worked in banking and property management for most of his career and was most recently employed at Marrero Land. He took great pride in his work and was a master at creating incredibly detailed budgets and spreadsheets. A devout member of the St. Rosalie Catholic Church, now known as Mary Help of Christians, Gary was deeply involved in his faith community. His commitment to service was evident through his active participation in the Knights of Columbus and being an usher every Sunday at Mass. He also enjoyed getting together at luncheons with his Lambda Chi fraternity brothers. Gary's personal life was marked by a profound love of quality time with family and the outdoors. He enjoyed walks in Jean Lafitte Park with his wife, kids and grandchildren, or searching for eagles’ nests throughout the area. He absolutely cherished family trips to the mountains, beach, and Disney World, making memories for a lifetime. His stories, often filled with humor, captured the hearts of all who knew him. He had a wonderful way of listening to others that made you feel seen. His laughter was infectious, and he had perfected the tastiest crawfish boils, best cajun sausage poboys and–a family favorite–homemade chocolate malts. Gary's life was a testament to his faith, humor, and the enduring strength of familial bonds. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know him. Visitation and Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, November 15, 2024 at Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church (formerly St. Rosalie Catholic Church), 600 Second Avenue, Harvey, LA, with Memorial Visitation from 9am - 11am and Memorial Mass at 11am.
