Gary Anthony Plaisance peacefully passed away on January 23, 2025 at 69 years old. Gary was preceded in death by his father, Odon Maurice Plaisance; mother, Bernice Arceneaux Plaisance and sister Ruth Plaisance Faucha (late Floyd). He is survived by his wife, Cynthia Melling Plaisance; sons Andrew, Matthew (Rayanna), and David (Danielle); brothers Larry Plaisance (Elizabeth, late Paula former sister-in-law), Morris Plaisance (Nancy, late Cheryl former sister-in-law), and Lester Plaisance (Kathleen); godchildren, Shelly Plaisance Schonekas and Benjamin Plaisance; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Gary was born on January 29, 1955, and he lived in Marrero, Louisiana for most of his life. Gary was always a hard worker, and he started working at ten years old as a paper boy to save for his future college education. Gary had a love of learning, and he especially enjoyed science, math, and history. With fervor, he pursued his pharmacy degree, earning his Doctorate of Pharmacy in 1978. He passionately served as a pharmacist in the Greater New Orleans area for over 30 years until his diagnosis of CIDP (chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy) forced him to relinquish his career in 2010. Since 2010, Gary fought this disease with strength, courage, and patience.
Gary's family was very important to him. His family genealogy was one of his favorite topics of conversation. He was a loving and very devoted husband and father. He prided himself on leading his family through guidance and example of his life. He was immensely proud of the family he made together with his wife, Cindy. Gary remained devoted to his family until his last breath. Gary's legacy was that of a loyal son, husband, father, and compassionate health care professional who ensured that all his patients received the best of care. Gary’s engaging personality brightened the lives of so many.
