Gene Lloyd Petkovich Sr

Gene Lloyd Petkovich, Sr. passed away on December 6, 2024 at the age of 83. A native of Ostrica, Louisiana, Gene was born on March 23, 1941 to the late Anthony Petkovich and Marie Irene Casbon Petkovich. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Angela “Chuggy” Duplessis Petkovich; his daughter Rene’ Phillips Petkovich (Allen Phillips); son Gene “Pistol” L. Petkovich, Jr. (Jill Worley Petkovich); grandchildren, Brandon L. Petkovich (Christin Ricks Petkovich) and Brooke E. Petkovich. 

He is predeceased by Doris Rodi, Nicoline Gisclair Gillis, Maggie Ancalade, John “Uncle “Joe” Petkovich, Anthony “Tony” Petkovich, Sr. and Louis Petkovich. He is survived by brother Ernest Petkovich and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. 

He was a dedicated husband, father, paw paw, uncle, brother, and friend, who loved his family above all else. The pride he had for his grandchildren was undeniable. 

Through the years, he was a fisherman, crew boat captain and worked for the state of Louisiana. He loved all things Tulane University related. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing softball, watching his grandchildren in every activity they participated in, dancing and listening to swamp pop music and Fats Domino. He enjoyed his cruises with his daughter, son-in-law, wife and Swamp Pop crew. He never turned down a cold Coors Light. 

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral services on Monday, December 16, 2024 at Mothe Funeral Home, 2100 Westbank Expressway, Harvey, LA. The visitation will be from 9:30 am to 11:00 am with a funeral Mass to start at 11:00 am. Burial will immediately follow at Our Lady of Good Harbor Cemetery, 35736 Hwy 11, Buras, LA.
