Gysgt Gerald M. Carter, Usmc (Ret.)

GySgt Gerald M. “Sarge” Carter, U.S.M.C. (Ret.) passed away on May 5, 2015 at the age of 85 years. Beloved husband of June Puchot Carter. Father of Jed Carter (Tammy Lawson), Jan Mackie (Jerry), Bobby Carter (Noelle), Michelle Kercho and the late Michael C. Carter. Grandfather of Jerry Jr., Jessica, Chad, Nicholas, Jared, Taylor, Leigh-Ann, Christina, Sarah, Caroline, Madeleine and Michael. Great-grandfather of Skyler, Chance, Hayden, Brenna, Olivia, Jackson, Addisyn, Mason, Luca and Harvey. Son of the late William and Lucille Bankston Carter. Also survived by other loving relatives and friends.
Sarge served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps, achieved the rank of Gunnery Sergeant and retired after 26 years of dedicated service. He served during both, the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Among his many decorations and citations, he was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge and Purple Heart. During his service, he was a P.O.W. on two separate occasions. Following his retirement from the Corps, he worked for General Marine Catering, owned and operated Ocean Chandler Services. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Christ the King Catholic Church, 535 Deerfield Road in Terrytown, LA on Friday, May 8, 2015 from 12:30 PM to 2 PM. A Funeral Mass will follow. Interment Westlawn Memorial Park.
