Gerald Joseph "Sam" Guidry Sr.
June 29, 1947 — October 16, 2022
Gerald Joseph “Sam” Guidry, Sr. passed away suddenly and entered Heaven on Sunday, October 16, 2022, after a brief but courageous battle with heart disease. He was 75 years “young”, and he was born on June 29, 1947, in Lafitte, La.
Beloved husband of Dorothy Hodge Guidry for 15 wonderful years. He is survived by his three children, Melissa “Missy” Guidry, Gerald Joseph “Rocko” Guidry, Jr., and Dominic Guidry: his grandchildren, Rhett, Brock, Paris “Pjoe”, Paige, and Jaida. Gerald leaves behind seven siblings to mourn, Brenda Perrin (late Morgan), Wayne Guidry, (Gayle), Monalisa Coulon (Archie), Chris Guidry (Kim), Tommy Guidry (late Trudy), Joey Guidry (Susan), and David “Bo” Guidry (Beth).
Gerald was the son of the late Joseph Thomas “Smokey” Guidry and the late Marie Schieffler Guidry. He is also preceded in death by his sisters, JoAnn Guidry and Glenda Rae Guidry.
A special thanks is expressed to his sister-in-law, Vicki Hodge Ladner and her husband Kevin Ladner for their dedication and care, throughout his long and colorful life, but also during the last few months of his life. Gerald is survived by a host of loved ones, including great grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, countless other family, and friends who loved him dearly. One of the great joys of Gerald’s later years, were his beloved Maltese puppies. Sugar Belle and Missy Mae will miss him dearly, as will all that knew and loved him.
Gerald had a loving, charming, and comical personality, and everyone that knew him, loved him. He was a loyal Saints (WhoDat) and LSU fan. Gerald loved nothing more than watching games with his family and friends. Our lives will be forever changed without his beautiful smile and lovely soul here with us.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service on Monday, October 24, 2022, at Mothe Funeral Home, 2200 Westbank Expressway, Harvey, La at 1pm. Interment at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Gretna, La. will immediately follow the funeral service. The visitation will begin at 10am.
