Gerald Louis Wood, passed away on Friday, March 9, 2012. Born February 28, 1925 in Long Beach, CA to Perry Wayne Wood of Chester, NE & Goldie Strauss Wood of Arroyo Grande , CA . Then raised by Wayne & Helen Wood (2nd wife) in Brea , CA . United States Navy World War II on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Wasp CV-18,radioman South Pacific. Earned a Mechanical Engineering degree, Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo , CA . He married the love of his life, Betty Arlene Long on April 19, 1945 and celebrated over 65 years of togetherness. Their marriage produced three children, Ray, Lyn, and Lori, grandchildren, Greg Wood, Duncan Wood, Kelly Wood, Jessica White, Blake Wood, Angela Gremillion, Scott Sullivan, Abby Gardner, and Alex Wood & eleven great-grandchildren, Alex Powell, Ellis Powell, Lauren Wood, Ely Fisher, Grace Wood, Elizabeth Wood, Jason Wood, Jackson Wood (deceased), Cameron Wood, Carson Wood and Leigha Silve. Survived by brother, Richard Wood ( Sharon ); his 3 children; 9 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren & many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, sister and a great-grandson. Jerry worked over 40 years as a mechanical engineer with Shell Oil and Project Associates. He was an elder at Woodland Presbyterian Church and led many Bible Studies and Small Groups with his wife Arlene. He was a longtime member of the Wednesday Morning Men’s Prayer Group. He loved sailing and raced his boats with the Corinthian Sailing Club at Southern Yacht Club. He also enjoyed playing handball and doing woodworking projects. Jerry was the loving patriarch of his family. He led others by his Christ-like example; he was an honorable, hardworking and generous gentleman who will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him. Service will be at Woodland Presbyterian Church, 5824 Berkley Dr , New Orleans , LA 70131 ,on March 16th, 2012, at 2PM. In lieu of flowers, a donation to
