Gladys Fortenberry Ponson, with her loved ones by her side, lost a courageous battle with liver disease on February 29, 2012. Beloved wife of Marshall Ponson for 20 years, devoted mother to Joyce Tidwell (Mitchell), Phyllis Easley (Don), George Fortenberry (Alicia), and Lou Landry (Neil). Loving Grandmother to Laurel Thomas, Natalie Fournet, Brian Tidwell, Ashley Moschella, Amanda Miller, Derek Easley, Jeffrey Fortenberry, Stacey Fortenberry, Jacques Landry, and Amy Barkerding. She is also survived by 22 great-grandchildren. Gladys was born in Point, LA on June 8, 1924. She is preceded in death by her parents, Farney and Rosa Dean, brothers Wilbur Dean, Banty Dean, and sister Frankie Racca. She is also survived by her sisters Myrtis Mann and Hazel Toney, and many nieces and nephews. She was a lifelong friend to Dolly Stifflemire. Gladys was a faithful employee of Delta Bank in Plaquemines Parish where she resided for 50 years. After retirement, she enjoyed sewing, crafting, gardening and spending time with family. She loved recalling stories of her youth working in cotton fields, tending the vegetable garden, canning home grown foods and enjoying country living. Her kind and gentle spirit made Gladys endearing to all who knew her She will be greatly missed. Relatives and Friends of the Family are invited to attend a Funeral Service in the Chapel of MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 2100 Westbank Expressway, Harvey, LA on Saturday, March 3, 2012 at 1 PM.
