Grace Louise Hausknecht Heurtin

Grace Louise Tillotson Heurtin passed away on Sunday, February 16, 2014 at Our Lady of Wisdom Healthcare Center at the age of 103. Beloved wife of the late John C. Heurtin, Sr. and loving mother of John C. Heurtin, Jr. (Marilyn), James A. Heurtin, DDS (Ardys) and Ray W. Heurtin (Marie). Grace was the daughter of the late Lulu Hausknecht and Frank J. Tillotson and proceeded in death by her brothers and sisters, Virgie T. Hotard (Julius), Mae Van Unen (Albert), John C. Tillotson (Eunice), Frank J. Tillotson (Virginia) and S. Allen Tillotson (Helene). She was also known as Grandma Fox to Deborah C. Gray (Scott), James A. Heurtin, Jr. (Molly), Michelle A. Lyon (Jeff), John C. Heurtin, III (Kristin), Michael P. Heurtin (Diane), Marie G. Bonanno (Ryan) and Rae M. Brown (Marc). She was the great grandmother of 14 and was also survived by several nieces, a nephew and extended family and friends. Private Funeral Services were held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 6th Street, Gretna, LA on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 officiated by Father Frank Carabello. The family wishes to thank Hattie Martin, Odell Oliver and the staffs and nurses of Our Lady of Wisdom Healthcare Center, Heart of Hospice and Dr. Charles Simonson for the exceptional care and comfort they provided Grace in her later years. Grace was a native and lifelong resident of Gretna, LA and devout Parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She was an elementary school teacher in Jefferson Parish for over 30 years. Grace loved to cook, bake, knit, crochet, dance and play bingo. She was affectionately known as “Amazing Grace” to those who were fortunate enough to have known her. Anyone who met her fell in love with this amazing little lady. Grace, beloved by all, will be dearly missed. Interment was in McDonoghville Cemetery.
