Grenes Marion Meisner, 92, a retired electrician, was a lifelong resident of Gretna, the son of Henry Berian Meisner and Ida Johnson Meisner, brother of Ernest and Julian Meisner, who predeceased him.
Mr. Meisner is survived by his three children Leslie Anne Meisner of San Jose, CA, Peter M. Meisner (Helen) of River Ridge and Lyle Meisner Eads Williams (Mark) of Luling and five grandchildren Rachael, Sarah, Melanie, Olivia and Madeline.Mr. Meisner, a parishioner of St. Anthony Parish in Gretna, attended the University of Alabama and enlisted in the US Coast Guard during WWII. He served aboard the USS Uniontown (PF-65) as a radioman, hunting submarines in the Caribbean and up and down the east coast. Convoy duty took him to Oran and Algeria in North Africa and into the Mediterranean. After honorable discharge following the war, he resumed his studies at Loyola University. Mr. Meisner was a homebuilder and was known for his interest in restoring and repairing old pianos and organs. At one time he was the proprietor of the Gretna musical instrument store, Meisner’s Music. In later years, he was employed at Belle Chase State School, until his retirement.
While in California, he had many friends, who loved him and will miss him. He had a twinkle in his eyes and always reached out to say "hello" and make contact with others. Relatives and friends of Mr. Meisner and his family are invited to attend a visitation at St. Anthony Church in Gretna, LA from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Friday, April 13th. A funeral Mass will follow with interment at Hook & Ladder Cemetery, 1000 Lafayette St, Gretna, LA (Newton St. entrance).
