Harley Charles Rabig, aged 88, passed peacefully on April 2, 2025. He was born on February 21, 1937 in Linden, New Jersey. He is survived by his 3 children, Harley Christopher Rabig, Michael Thomas Rabig, Susan Kathleen Putman (nee Rabig), his beloved stepson, David Hughes, his younger brother William Robert Rabig and his younger sister Toni Victoria Passaro (nee Rabig).
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanne Patricka Rabig (nee Hanley), father Harley Joseph Rabig and mother Frances Harriet Rabig (nee Knevels).
Harley had a long and successful career in the United States Coast Guard, where he retired as Master Chief. He was an active member of the West Bank Rotary Club, the Horseless Carriage Club of New Orleans in which he served as Vice-President, and his church, Gretna United Methodist Church. He was also a past member of the Crescent City Model Railroad Club.
Harley was very well known as an avid model train enthusiast, and a collector of vintage vehicles. He was always the first to lend a hand to a friend in need, and he always had a joke on hand to make his friends and family laugh. Throughout his numerous extra-curricular activities, Harley made many friends, which serves as a testament to his friendly and cheerful character. He always left everyone with a smile.
A celebration of his life will be held at Gretna United Methodist Church, 1309 Whitney Avenue, Gretna, LA on April 9, 2025 from 9 AM until Service time at 11 AM. Interment will be at Lakelawn Cemetery (5100 Ponchartrain Blvd, New Orleans, LA 70124). Mothe Funeral Homes handled arrangements.
