Heather Marie Houin Mebane

Heather Marie Houin Mebane, “Dawg”, of Terrytown, Louisiana, passed away on June 29, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by her loving family. She was 47.

Born on September 28, 1976 in Metairie, LA, she is survived by her three precious children, Henry James (16), Charles Allen (13), and Mary Frances (11), who were her top priority. She also leaves behind her parents, Eric J. Houin, Sr. (Alice), and Anne F. Houin, her brother Eric Houin, Jr. (Serena), sisters Christina Mamlouk (Khalid), Katherine Marchese (Nicky), step-siblings Kristy, Karen and Frankie, nieces Micheala, Claire, Anna, Lily, Julia, Cecilia and Nora. Due to her strong, deep faith, she was a Godmother to many. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Henry and Beatrice Houin, and Thomas and Mary Sweeney.

Heather was a graduate of St. Mary’s Dominican High School (class of 1994), and received both her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from Texas Woman's University.

She was a passionate Speech Language Pathologist in various schools in both Texas and Louisiana, and left her signature on everyone’s heart wherever she went. Heather loved working with children and was a fierce advocate for those who needed it the most. When she was not working or driving her kids around town, she could be found cheering on the Saints, staking out a spot for the next parade, or choreographing her next dance move, always making everyone laugh with her one-of-a-kind sense of humor. Heather left the world a better place.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Visitation at Mothe Funeral Home, 2100 Westbank Expy Harvey, Louisiana, on Sunday, July 7, 2024 at 7 PM - 9 PM. On Monday, July 8, Visitation at St. Andrew the Apostle Church, 3101 Eton St., New Orleans, Louisiana, begins at 9:00 AM until funeral service time at 10:45 AM. Eulogy/Words of Remembrance and the Funeral Mass will follow. Burial immediately following at Greenwood Cemetery, 120 City Park Ave New Orleans, Louisiana.
