Herman John Coste, Sr. entered eternal life with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana, at the age of 85. Born on April 2, 1939, Herman was predeceased by his beloved wife Carmen Perez Coste. Mr. Coste is survived by his daughter, Stephanie Coste Braquet (Ray), son, Herman Coste, Jr. (Christine), granddaughter, Gabrielle Marie Coste, sister, Norma Grandpre (Gerald) and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Coste was a life-long resident of New Orleans. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Ulyess J. Coste, Sr. and Victoria LeBeaud Coste, siblings Ulyess Joseph Coste, Jr., Theresa Cocrane (Marshall), Mary Ann Anderson (Andrew), Lorraine Guillaume (Warmouth), Bernadine Fulton (Henry), and Marcella Girard (Lloyd). Herman was a graduate of Saint Augustine High School and served in the United States Army for four years. He made a living and provided for his family as a skilled brick mason. He enjoyed entertaining whether it was Sunday dinners, Mardi Gras parades, and major or minor holidays. And he ‘irritated’ his wife by ending every family gathering by singing, “rise sons of the gold and purple”, St. Augustine High School’s alma mater. He enjoyed an occasional “debate” centered around politics or sports and we all knew his opinions were always correct.
