Huey Pierre Dufrene Jr., 61, passed away on the morning of February 27, 2025, in Albany, Louisiana. Born on May 9, 1963, he lived a life defined by love for his family, creativity, and kindness—qualities that will be deeply missed. He was preceded in death by his mother, Wanda Ann Trahan, and his baby sister, Dawn Ann Dufrene. He is survived by his beloved wife, Penny Werner Dufrene, whom he cherished and loved with unquestionable devotion. His children, Stacey Morris Breaux (Joshua Breaux), Daniel Morris Sr. (Toni Senter Morris), Kyle Dufrene (Jessica Larousse Dufrene), and Cherie’ Dufrene (Chase Hays), will forever carry his memory in their hearts. Known as "Papa D" to his grandchildren, Huey was a loving grandfather to nine, with one more on the way. He is also survived by his father, Huey Dufrene Sr., and his younger brothers, Hunley and Hale Dufrene. Huey had a passion for The Saints and LSU sports, enduring every heartbreaking loss and celebrating every victory with the same unwavering loyalty. A lifelong technology enthusiast, he was always one step ahead when it came to innovation. If there was a new gadget, he had already read about it, had a plan to buy it, or already owned it. Nowhere was this more evident than in his fascination with Tesla, which went beyond just ownership of his beloved Pearl White Model 3—it was the boldness of the vision that captured his imagination. Yet above all, space fascinated him most. He was endlessly captivated by the cosmos, always looking upward, always imagining what lay beyond. Perhaps now, at last, he has made his journey to the moon—maybe even beyond—watching over his family and loved ones from the best seat in the universe, in a galaxy not so far, far away. Family and friends are invited to gather for a Visitation honoring Huey’s life on March 7th from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Mothe Funeral Home, 7040 Lapalco Blvd, Marrero, LA 70072. Following the visitation, Huey will be laid to rest at Gates of Heaven Mausoleum, 596 Ave A, Westwego, LA 70094.
