Jack Weldon Williams

November 1, 1923 — July 25, 2013

Jack Williams, age 89, passed away peacefully in his home in Woodcreek (Wimberley), TX on July 25 , 2013. Jack Weldon Williams was born to William Virgil Williams and Rebecca Floyd Sisk on November 1, 1923 in Reno (Azle), TX. He served for 38 months in the U.S. Navy during World War II; initially stationed in New Orleans, LA and then overseas in Okinawa. In 1946, after being honorably discharged, he married the first Love of His Life that he met in New Orleans: Gladys Agnes Berthelot. They moved to Houston TX to begin his distinguished 37 1/2 year career with Gulf Oil Corporation. From Houston, his advancement with Gulf took them briefly to Waco, TX, then on to Tulsa, OK and finally back to Houston. His true love affair with Gladys ended unexpectedly with her untimely passing in 1984 after almost 38 years of marriage. While many can only dream to meet one Love in a lifetime, Jack was again blessed when he became reacquainted with and married the second Love of His Life, Mary Kathryn (Jones) Clark – “Kathryn”. Both in their late 60’s, they married in 1990 at Hilltop, TX and their journey ultimately brought them to Woodcreek in 2003. Who could have imagined with such a “late” relationship that they would still be able to enjoy over 19 years of happiness together until Kathryn’s passing in 2010. Jack was truly the eternal optimist, self-sacrificing for his wives and families, completely non-judgmental to all, and in his last years, even while struggling with health issues, was proud to be known by a new nickname, “Happy Jack.” Jack is survived by his sister Maurine Reynolds of Azle, TX, his eldest son John Williams and his wife Lisa of Houston, his son Steven Williams of Austin, his daughter Kathryn Daniel and her husband Richard of Houston, his step-children: Linda Floyd and her husband Dick, Sherry Jones and her husband Jim, Rick Clark and his wife Marcia, his brother-in-laws: Frank Berthelot, Joe Berthelot and his wife Joyce, Robert (Bob) Berthelot and his wife Dee, as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Jack was preceded in death by his wives: Gladys and Kathryn, his brothers: Bowman and Covie Williams. Over the last 5 years, an Angel in human form first began caring for Kathryn and Jack, and then ultimately Jack. Caregiver, Kathy Chesnut, ensured that Jack’s quality of life was the absolute best it could be. The surviving family will be forever indebted to her for the care and love she gave Jack and think of her as our “sister”. We know her grief for this loss is as great as ours. The family would also like to thank Kathy’s daughter Carrie for her support, and another recent “helper,” Roger, who entertained Jack as the “Cowboy” and “Indian.” The family is thankful for the care provided in recent years by Dr. Eric Price and his staff and finally, for the very recent attention and care provided by the staff of Blue Bonnet Palliative Care of Wimberley. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held on Thursday, August 1, 2013 at 7:00 pm at Mothe Funeral Home, 1300 Vallette St, Algiers, LA (New Orleans), (504) 366-4343. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, August 2 at 11:00 am at Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church, 400 Verrett St, Algiers, LA. Interment will follow at Glady’s family tomb in Metairie Cemetery, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd, New Orleans LA 70114. Should you desire, donations can be made to Alzheimer’s Association, P.O. Box 96011 Washington DC 20090-6011. Local arrangements entrusted to Thomason Funeral Home, Wimberley, TX. New Orleans’ arrangements Mothe Funeral Home
