James Richoux

James Richoux, born on November 19, 1939, in the vibrant city of New Orleans, passed away peacefully at his home in Marrero, LA, on February 16, 2025. He was a remarkable man, leaving behind a legacy that resonates with all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A loyal friend and dedicated volunteer, James exemplified the spirit of generosity and service throughout his life. He attended West Jefferson High School and built a career as a switchman at Southern Pacific Railroad while also driving a school bus for Jefferson Parish Schools. His dedication to both his job and the community mirrored his love for his country and his deeply held belief in the power of hard work.

James's interests were as varied as they were passionate. In his earlier years, he delighted in the great outdoors, enjoying duck and deer hunting, fishing, and bowling. He had a zest for life, often embarking on adventurous RV travels and sharing unforgettable moments with friends during numerous trips to Las Vegas. A true lover of knowledge, he relished playing Trivial Pursuit and completing crossword puzzles daily. His love for culture and tradition was beautifully expressed through his joy in participating in Mardi Gras festivities, notably riding in the Elks truck parade for nearly 20 years.

His proudest accomplishments include lifelong membership at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and a profound commitment to Concordia Lutheran School as a dedicated volunteer. His active involvement with the Southern Pacific Retiree Club kept his spirit vibrant and connected to his past colleagues.

James is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Shirley Cuny Richoux, and his cherished daughters, Cheryl Buras and Melissa Butterfield. His family continues to flourish, enriched by the love of son-in-law Craig Buras, son-in-law Steven Butterfield, and his beloved grandchildren: Jacque Richard, Ashleigh Butterfield, and Garrett Butterfield. He will be dearly missed by his only surviving sister, Ruby Soleto.  Together, they embody the love and warmth that James instilled in his family.

He joins his deceased relatives in eternal rest, including his father Louis Richoux, mother Aggie Bellanger, son Clinton James Richoux, and several siblings: Doris Dufrene, Ida Mae Autin, Edward Robichaux, Raymond Richoux, Lillian Leboeuf, and Mary Ann Trahan. Their collective memory serves as a testament to the bonds of family that James treasured throughout his life.

James Richoux will be honored in a series of services at Marrero - Mothe Funeral Homes, LLC. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during the visitation on February 25, 2025, from 10:30 AM to 1:30 PM, followed by a funeral service at 1:30 PM. His journey will conclude with a burial at Westlawn Memorial Park in Terrytown, LA, at 2:45 PM.

As we bid farewell to James, we celebrate a life richly lived, imbued with friendship, service, and adventure. His memory will linger in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to cross his path.
