Jane Cameron

May 11, 1946 — March 21, 2024

“Life is not a dress rehearsal” was Janie’s mantra which she committed to needlepoint and prominently displayed above the breakfast table to remind us to make every day count.  Born on May 11, 1946, encouraged by her mother, BJ, and her grandmothers, Jack and Emma, Janie cultivated a desire to know the wider world which resulted in a lifelong quest for learning.  Following graduation from Belhaven College in Jackson with a degree in education, she pursued a career as a teacher before dedicating her life to her husband and daughter.  But while her focus was on her home and family, her curiosity for matters beyond the domestic never ceased.  From classes on Mozart, opera and feminist literature at Tulane to politics, international travel and an obsession with the daily fluctuations of the stock market, Janie kept her family on its toes with lively discussions around the dinner table.  She embraced all stages of life and saw getting older as a sign of confidence and wisdom.  We will always remember her as the family CEO, an avid reader, crossword wizard, peanut butter enthusiast and accomplished needlepoint artist, but most of all, we will remember her incredible strength in adversity and her ability to accept the unchangeable with peace and grace.  Janie passed away at home on March 21, 2024 surrounded by her family.  She is survived by her husband of fifty seven years, Fridge Cameron, daughter, Anna Victoria Cameron, and sister Mary Dianne Smith Lee.  A private celebration of life will be held in Janie’s honor at the family home.  Donations can be made to Team Gleason.
