It is with sadness in our hearts that we announce the passing of Jerry “Cupie” Valdez, age 82, a devoted Christian who returned to his Heavenly Father on Thursday, August 10, 2023.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Lucy Duran Valdez; children Elias Jerry Valdez, Arla Frederic (Charlie), Cheryl LeBlanc(Steve), Gina Fay (Tommy), Paul Valdez (Shelly); 12 Grandchildren and 9 Great-Grandchildren. Sisters, Viola R. Valdez and Loretta Cardnes Worthington. Brothers, Larry J. Cardenes and Anthony J. Cardenes
He is preceded in death by his Mother, Ascension Cardnes; Great-Grandson, Asher Patterson (Alexa); Brothers, Andy Valdez and Johnny Valdez; Sister, Henrietta Valdez
Jerry was born in Raton, NM and grew a passion for horse racing. He met the love of his life and together, they traveled across the US pursuing his Jockey career. They started a family and eventually settled down in Louisiana to enjoy the sport year-round. In an effort to devote his life to God and his family, he retired his silks and became an experienced welder working for Avondale Shipyard, eventually retiring after 30 plus years of Service.
As a resident of Harvey, LA and active member of Christian Fellowship, he devoted himself to his family and his church. Brother Jerry is known for his bright smile, great sense of humor, friendly handshake, and his love of worship and service to the community.
Jerry was loved immensely by his family and will be forever missed.
Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, August 25, 2023 at Christian Fellowship Church, 5049 Ehret Road, Marrero. Visitation 10-11, Service to follow
