Joan R. Mediamolle Breaux, a beacon of joy with a humor as bright as her personality, passed away on March 26th, 2024 leaving behind a legacy defined by deep-rooted love for her family and an extensive circle of friends. Born to the late Arthur and Esperance Roussel, Joan grew up in Gretna and attended Ursuline Academy before marrying the late Leo L. Mediamolle, Sr. with whom she raised her two dearly beloved children. A life-long parishioner of St. Joseph / St. Anthony Catholic Church of Gretna, Joan's faith was a cornerstone of her existence. Joan was known for her big personality and ever-present smile. Joan worked at Hausmann’s Jewelers and later at Bailey Banks & Biddle as an award winning sales associate where she brought her sense of humor and famous smile for many years. Joan was also a regular at “Mudbugs” for decades where she could be found country dancing up to four nights a week. Joan is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 32 years Gary Breaux who passed away in April 2021. She is survived by her children Leo Mediamolle, Jr. (Terry) and Marie Mediamolle Howenstine (Rick), step-daughters Julie VanderMolen (John) and Jan Giammolva, cherished grandsons Addison Howenstine and Austin Howenstine (Katherine), and great-grandson Leo J. Howenstine. Joan also cherished her relationships with her twin sister Joy Patin (late Richard), sister Margaret Vizzi (late Ferdinand), brother Optimer J. Roussel (Mary), and late brother Jay Paul Roussel, Sr. (late Dottie Lee). Joan's unparalleled ability to nurture relationships shone through her extensive network of nieces, nephews, cousins, and god-children, who were all touched by her warmth, wit, and the special bond she shared with each. She will be remembered for the joy and laughter she brought to any gathering, where she always sought to be the life of the party and the center of attention. Services to honor and celebrate Joan's life will be held at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Gretna, followed by interment at Westlawn Memorial Park on April 2nd, 2024. The visitation will begin at 10:00 AM with a Mass following at 12:00 PM. We invite all who knew and loved Joan to join us in commemorating her legacy.
