John Edward Chauvin, age 81, went home to be with Jesus on August 2nd, 2015 after a brief battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Audrey (Mire) Chauvin; Sons: Paul (Elaine); Robert (Faith); Mark (Barb). PawPaw of Christopher, Matthew; Jessica, Elizabeth; Amy, Rachel, and Luke; Great Grand-Dad to Kaity and Logan. Also survived by siblings: Rose Collins, Edna Jones, Claire McCabe, Raymond (Gaydell) and countless nieces and nephews. He was the son of the late Frank and Blanche Chauvin. John was preceded in death by his siblings: Thaddeus, Huey, and Ruth Carter. John was born in Houma, LA, but resided in Gretna, LA until 1997 when he moved to his much beloved “Georgia Mountain Home” in Hiawassee. John served in the US Army in Japan after the Korean Conflict. He retired from the US Post Office in old Gretna. John was a long time member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Gretna, LA; is a member of the Knights of Columbia, Immaculate Heart of Mary, Hayesville, NC, devoted to Our Lady of Fatima, and a supporter of the Little Sisters of the Poor. John was loved by everybody that knew him, especially by those that lived in The Mountain Village community in Hiawassee. Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service in Harvey, LA that will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2015 at MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 2100 Westbank Expressway, Harvey, LA. A Memorial Visitation will be held from 10am to 11am with Memorial Service following at 11AM. A Memorial Mass will be held in Hiawassee; Date to be determined.
