John Wayne "Squeek" Dodgen passed away July 18, 2023. Survived by his beloved wife of 36 years, Kim Dodgen. Cherished Father to John R. Dodgen (Amanda) and Blaine Dodgen (Brittany). Son of the late John L. Dodgen and the late Zoe Ella D. Dodgen. Brother to George Dodgen (Connie Versen), the late Larry Dodgen (Leslie Dodgen) and Patty Dodgen (late Raymond Galloway). Grandfather to Sean Dodgen and Livian Dodgen. Also, survived by 18 nieces, nephews and cousins.
A longtime resident of Marrero, John was a dedicated employee to Avondale Industries Inc. for over 17 years and Billiot Pest Control for the last 32 years. John was a proud member of the Pete Fountain Half Fast Walking Club. John had a passion for sports throughout his entire life with a special place in his heart for the LSU Tigers. John's love for playing sports continued into his mid 40's with playing in numerous men's softball leagues. His love for golf grew over the years as he would continue to play in golf tournaments with his friends and family until his last days. John's love for the game of baseball led him to start coaching his kids and many others through the years while being widely known as "Coach Squeek". Everyone knew John had a passion for cars, trucks and classic vehicles (especially Chevrolet). He enjoyed working on his vehicles, and was happy to show friends and neighbors how to change their own oil and brakes. John always had a story to tell, so much so, he would even tell some multiple times and be just as excited to tell them. He never met a stranger and his smile and energy were infectious to everyone in his presence.
John's biggest accomplishment was being a proud husband and father, a loving grandfather and an extremely loyal friend. He is deeply loved and will be missed by everyone who were fortunate enough to know him. May John's positive spirit rest in peace over us.
