John Douglas “J.D.” Spano passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 1, 2021 at his residence in Marrero, LA. He was 79.
John is survived by his loving wife, Mary Hennegan Spano; two brothers, Dominick Spano and David Spano (wife, Roselyn); step-daughter, Charlene Picard (husband, Joe); step-son, James Hennegan (wife, Kim); granddaughters, Ashley Oubre (husband, Jacob), Raven Despaux (husband, Kasten), and Hunter Picard (husband, Matt); grandson, Justin Hennegan (wife, Kirstin); great-grandchildren, Dylan, Caleb, and Carli Oubre, Maya and Jaxon Hennegan, Brylie Despaux and Simone Picard. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
He is preceded in death by his loving parents, Frank and Rosa McNeely Spano; brother, Frank Spano, Jr. and his sister, June Spano Cawvey.
John served his country in the U.S. Air Force and was a computer engineer. He loved being with his family and friends and was a proud member of the Marrero Lions Club and American Legion Post 222. He was an avid traveler who travelled all over the world for both business and pleasure. His greatest moments were being with his high school sweetheart and best friend, Mary. He will be missed by the many people who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Visitation will be held at St. John Bosco Catholic Church, 2114 Oakmere Drive, Harvey, LA on Thursday, May 6, 2021 from 10am to 12noon. A Funeral Mass will follow. Interment Westlawn Memorial Park, Gretna, LA.
In lieu of flowers, Masses are preferred.
Respectful of current guidelines, all attendees must wear their own mask/face covering and practice distancing.
