It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden and unexpected death of Jon Racherbaumer this past Tuesday morning, October 22, 2024, in New Orleans.
A noted author and magician, Jon has written over 150 books, and an infinite number of articles on the subject of close-up and sleight-of-hand card magic for magazines and journals worldwide for over half a century.
Universally admired and loved, Jon was that rare combination of brilliance, humor, generosity, and humility. He leaves behind a legacy that has amazed, challenged, and enlightened magicians throughout his long and respected career.
His thoughtful prose and command of the written word, as well as that of his magical craft has inspired generations of amateur and professional magicians alike.
Friends and relatives have likewise been charmed and delighted by his musings and impromptu performances throughout the years.
All who knew him mourn his passing.
Predeceased by his parents (William Louis Racherbaumer, Sr. and Marian S. Racherbaumer) and younger brother (William L. Racherbaumer, Jr.), Jon leaves behind two brothers (Chris Rolf and Kelly Rolf), seven children (Jona Payne, Karen Peters, Michael Racherbaumer, Wink Racherbaumer, Erika Racherbaumer, Robynn Racherbaumer and Ry Racherbaumer), 11 grandchildren (Lindsey Peters, Matthew Peters, Adam Racherbaumer, Ben Racherbaumer, Thomas Payne, Alyssa Alcazar, Sophina Nichols, Sasha Racherbaumer, Autumn Racherbaumer, Kirin Racherbaumer, and Komala Racherbaumer), and 3 great grandchildren (David Peters, Valerie Peters, and Tilian Payne), and his loving companion of 40 years, Jessica Hack.
A celebration of his life will take place in the coming months.
