Joseph "Chubby" Callais, Jr.

Joseph “Chubby” Golty Callais, Jr., age 76, passed away on July 24, 2023.  Loving husband of Sheila Dore Callais for 58 years of marriage.  Preceded in death by his father, Golty Joseph Callais and his mother Rosalie “Slavkia” Franicevich; his brother, Jack Anthony Callais and his daughter, Shannon Monique Callais.  He is the father of Michael Callais and Michelle Callais.  Grandfather of Candice Callais Pelas (Chase), Mallory “Yen” Hebert, Colleen Callais, Bosit Bommarito IV, Jude Bommarito, Annslie Callais, Addison Danos and Avery Danos.  Great Grandfather of Rylee Gauthreaux, Lily Pelas, Demi Pelas, Evangeline Myers, Coen Drozd, Cami Pelas and Delilah Drozd.  Chubby was born on December 25, 1946 in Port Sulphur, Louisiana.  He was a resident of Ostrica, Louisiana for 8 years and moved to Buras, Louisiana in 1955 and became a lifelong resident of Plaquemines Parish.  Brother of Martha “Sue” Cook (Paul Lee), James “Bimbo” Callais (Loreen) and Mona Boutwell (Donnie).  He is also survived by many loved nieces, nephews and cousins.  Chubby was a 2^nd generation Merchant Marine, devoted Boat Captain of 60 plus years.  He was a member of the Down the Road Cooking Crew and The Gashouse Gang in Buras, Louisiana.  Chubby was always laughing, joking, loved cooking and spending time with his family and friends.  He will be deeply missed by everyone.  Our family would like to thank Compassus Hospice Service for the excellent care they provided.  Family and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Visitation at MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 2100 Westbank Expressway, Harvey, Louisiana on Saturday, August 5, 2023 from 9AM until 11AM.  Memorial Services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday at 11AM.
