Joseph P. Romano, born May 18, 1923, died peacefully at home on the morning of October 4, 2016, at the age of 93. Beloved son of the late Sam Romano and Rosalie Palermo Romano. Brother of the late James Romano, Sr., Lena Romano Terrebonne, and Josephine Romano Chailaire. He will be missed dearly by his wife of 67 years, Shirley Marshall Romano, his daughter, Linda Romano Landry, and his brother Frank S. Romano. He is also survived by his granddaughters, Courtney and Kristin Schouest, his great grandchildren, Paige, Aidan, and Charlie, and his great-great grandson, Mason.
Joseph fought with the 1st Armored Division during the Italian Campaign throughout World War II, bravely serving his country in combat and receiving an honorable discharge in 1945. A longtime resident of Marrero, Louisiana, he was a recognized, very generous Westbank businessman for over 60 years. In addition, he was a proud member of both the Westbank VFW for 68 years and the Italian American Society.
In the wake of his death, Joseph wished to thank all of those who actively supported him and showed an interest in his comfort throughout his life. With this in mind, the family wishes to express a heartfelt thanks to Lillie Romano Farenholt and her daughter, Katie Farenholt, for all of their devoted hours by his side, to Jan Miller for all of her help, and finally too, expresses a deep appreciation to his caring nurse, Erica, with Heart of Hospice.
He was, at heart, 'a kind person almost every moment, which, in the end, made him the greatest person in almost every thing.' Private services were held on October 8, 2016 at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Gretna, LA. Mothe Funeral Homes handled arrangements, visit
