Josephine Chimento Shamburger

Josephine Chimento Shamburger, passed away peacefully at her home on September 17, 2014. She would have celebrated her 90th birthday this September 21, 2014. She was born in 1924 in Harvey, LA to the late Buddy and Lucy Falcone Chimento. On September 23, 1945 she married the love of her life, John W. Shamburger; together they lived in Houma. La. until her beloved John was tragically killed in an auto accident in 1979. Josephine continued an active life in Houma with her many friends, but felt the call of family and returned to Gretna in 1992 to be close to her beloved mother Lucy; her sister, the late Frances Chimento King and her niece and nephews. Josephine lovingly called "Nannie Josie" by all, took great pleasure in family life and though never blessed with children of her own, was the second mother to her sister's children; her godchild the late Michael Randolph King. (Husband of Ellen D King), and Marcia King Reck, (wife of Gothard J Reck) who remained devoted to the care and comfort of her aunt Josephine until her death. Josephine is also survived by her great nephews, Gothard King Reck, William R King, Kelly Jude King and Bill H King, husband other late sister Frances. Special thanks from the family are extended to her cousins, Joanna Carnesi Stott and Frances F East and her devoted friend, Sister Kateri Battaglia for their constant love, support and concern for Josephine throughout her life. Additional thanks goes to the dedicated caretakers who have so compassionately cared for Josephine over the last two years, Ollie Howell, Dierdre Howard, Yvonne Scieneaux. Gratitude is also felt for her caring friends Henry and Lennie Flattman, Debbie Blanchard and Renelle Cumbel. Josephine was also a member of the Jefferson Parish Italian American Society Ladles Auxiliary. A visitation will be held at MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 2100 Westbank Expressway, Harvey, LA on Saturday, September 20, 2014 from 9AM until 10:30AM. A Funeral Mass will be held at the funeral home on Saturday at 10:30AM. Interment will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
