Judy Ly

Judy Ly, a beloved mother, daughter, sister and aunt, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2024 at home surrounded by her loved ones in Gretna, Louisiana.

Born on April 30, 1947 in Saigon, Vietnam, Judy was the 2nd child of 7 children of the late Kohn Ly and the late Mai Tran. She immigrated from Vietnam to the United States to settle in Amarillo, Texas. She was married to Sam Dang and they had two daughters-Lin and Mimi.

Judy’s life long dream was to own a convenience store, and she relocated ther family to Louisiana in hopes of achieving this goal. In 1995, she opened D’s Express, a convenience store located in Gretna, Louisiana. Judy dedicated over 28 years of her life to the success of her dream, thereby providing her children with a better life and opportunities.

Judy’s passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew her, but her spirit will continue to inspire and guide us. Her laughter, her kindness to strangers and her ability to make everyone feel cherished will be sorely missed but never forgotten.

A long time resident of Gretna, Louisiana she was preceded in death by her two sisters and one brother. She is survived by her 2 daughters, 2 grand children, 2 two sisters, 1 brother, 3 nieces, 3 nephews, 4 great nephews and1 great niece.

As we say goodbye to Judy Ly, we celebrate the life of a woman who was a beacon of kindness and love. Her legacy is one of unwavering devotion to her family, a testament to the beautiful life she lived and the countless lives she touched. Judy’s memory will be treasured forever, as we hold her close in our hearts and remember the light she brought into this world.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 15, 2024 from 5:30 pm - 9:00 pm at Mothe Funeral Home located in Harvey, Louisiana. There will be prayer service from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm (everyone is welcome to attend)

A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 16, 2024 from 8:30 am - 11:00 am at Mothe Funeral Home located in Harvey, Louisiana. There will be prayer service from 9:30 am to 10:30 am. The cremation will take place at St. John Crematorium at 11:30 am.

The celebration of life lunch will be held at August Moon Restaurant located at 875 Manhattan Blvd, Harvey, LA 70058.
