Julius "Googie" Oakman

September 25, 1951 — March 21, 2025

Julius “Googie” Oakman entered into eternal rest on Friday, March 21, 2025 at the age of 73. Beloved and loving husband of Toni Lorraine Oakman for 41 years. Son of the late Jules Joseph Oakman, Sr. and the late Amelia Esther Ingulia Oakman. Loving and devoted father of Tracy Mabry (Lester Mabry), Jimmy Stewart, Jr., Dennis Stewart and Andrew Oakman (Rachel Lirette Oakman). Devoted and loving grandfather of Pamela Mabry, Linda Peralez, Lester Mabry, Jimmy Stewart, III, Weston Stewart, Taylar Stewart, Darian Oakman, Rylie Oakman, Cameron Oakman, Ryan Oakman, Leon Oakman and the late Lester C. Mabry. Loving Great Grandfather of Braycen Folmar, Samuel Mabry, Autumn Peralez and Christian Peralez. Brother of Raymond “Poochy” Oakman, Donald Powell, Sr. and the late Evangeline Oakman, Lorraine Oakman, Julia “Ya Ya” Smith, Jules “Toots” Oakman, Jr., Elaine “Lainey” McGaha, Albert “Buddy” Oakman, Robert “Wuzzy” Oakman and Patricia “Teak” Mabry. Googie is also survived by his nephew, Donald Powell, Jr. and is preceded in death by his nephew, the late Stacy McGaha. He is also survived by many other nieces and nephews. Googie was one of the kindest souls who ever lived. He grew up in Bucktown, Louisiana as the youngest boy of nine siblings. He loved the water, working on the Lake on his dad’s trawler. As a young man, he spent some time on oil rigs and eventually became a welder. Googie retired from Jefferson Sprinkler Company in 2017 after 32 years as a pipe fitter/welder where he was loved by his work family including his stepson, Dennis; his brother-in-law, “Big” Donald and nephew “Little” Donald. Googie never met a stranger. Whether it be the door-to-door vacuum salesman, Mormons or the guys who replaced his roof that time, he would invite them over for dinner and return visits. To Googie, everyone was special, everyone was important. He loved fishing, working on house projects, and building model cars. Most of all, he loved playing with and spoiling his grandkids. At Pop Pop’s, snacks were always stocked. Everyone on a swing got pushed. Laughter was the best medicine. We will miss him dearly.
