Karen Linda Knight, a loving sister, aunt, businesswoman and great friend of many, passed away peacefully on November 16, 2023 in Oregon. She was born in New Orleans and remained a Louisiana resident for life.
She graduated from Loyola University of the South School of Law and was admitted to the Louisiana Bar in 1968. While practicing law, she worked for Jefferson Savings & Loan. After becoming their President and Chief Executive, she oversaw its conversion to the Jefferson Federal Savings Bank and served as its Chairman. Karen also served on the Federal Home Loan Bank Board of Dallas, and was active in the Louisiana League of Savings Institutions, serving as its Chairman in 1989. She retired from Jefferson Federal Savings Bank in 1996, with its acquisition by Iberia Bank and from the Board of Iberia Bank in 1998.
Karen was a loving sister to Kathleen and her husband Jack Carter, and they served as her caregivers during her four months under hospice care. She was a fantastic aunt to her nephew Nathan Carter, his spouse Holly, and their children, and to her niece Lauren Carter and spouse Brandon Ellison. She was just as generous and fun loving to her friends, who are too many to count. She loved life and brought her outgoing unique self to everything she did. Karen was able to remain herself to the end, and she had a lot of fun along the way.
Karen was a devout Catholic and avid Saints fan.
