Katherine “Kitty” O’Brien Hakenjos passed away on May 26, 2013 at the age of 93 years. She is preceded in death by her parents, Alice DeAlton O’Brien and John “Cap” O’Brien; her husband, William “Bill” Hakenjos; her son, Jerry A. Hakenjos; her brothers, Harold “Pat”, John, Elswood and Albert O’Brien. Survivors include her children, William “Hacksaw” Hakenjos and Terry Boudreaux (Rodney); grandchildren, Lynn Frances (George), Lisa, Todd (Candis), Trisha (Daniel), Katherine, Jennifer and Angelia; fifteen great-grandchildren and her daughters-in-law, Barbara Hakenjos and Eileen Sacks.
Kitty attended Soule Business School and retired as Librarian for Jefferson Parish after 20 years of dedicated service. She worked at many area libraries including Gretna, Marrero, Westwego, Harahan and even drove the Bookmobile. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Amvets Post 38-Westwego, American Legion Post 222 and John McDonogh VFW Post 3121 where she served as president.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 2100 Westbank Expy., Harvey, LA on Saturday, June 1, 2013 at 11 AM. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
