Kathleen Clare Coney

Kathleen Clare Coney, age 75, passed away peacefully in the presence of family on December 12, 2023. She was born October 18, 1948 in New Orleans, Louisiana to James (Jimmy) and Clare (Nolan) Coney. Kathleen grew up in New Orleans where she attended Holy Name of Mary and Dominican High School. In 1963 her father was transferred to Houston where she finished high school at St. Agnes Academy.  
Kathleen had a long and successful career with The Hartford Insurance Company where she was a Senior Claims Manager in New Orleans and was transferred to Orlando in 1992. Upon her retirement from Hartford she relocated to Houston, TX to be closer to her children and grandchildren. Kathleen had a very vibrant and outgoing personality. She made friends easily and had a way of making people feel comfortable in her presence. Growing up she enjoyed playing sports, especially volleyball and softball. In high school she picked up playing guitar and even wrote some original songs. While living in Orlando, she started playing golf and enjoyed the game a great deal. She moved into an Independent Living Community in 2015 in Houston. She was involved in several activities there including weekly Bingo and The Red Hat Society. She also served a term as President of the Residential Association and was an ambassador for new residents to help them get acclimated to the community. 
Kathleen loved her family dearly and will be greatly missed. She is survived by her children, Philip James Battaglia and wife Kelly of Houston, Texas and Kristin Dent Rathbun and husband Ben of Cypress, Texas; sister Karen Coney Mathews of Frisco, Texas; grandchildren Taylor Lamar Battaglia and husband Hunter Loyacano of College Station, Texas, Zachary Philip Battaglia and wife Sarah of Houston, Texas, David Austin Rathbun and wife Jordon of Cypress, Texas, Mallory Clare Battaglia of Houston, Texas and Ethan James Rathbun of Cypress, Texas; niece Marissa Mathews Kelly and husband Kirk of Fort Worth, Texas; great nieces Kanon and Clare Kelly. Kathleen was also blessed with 7 great grandchildren Wyatt, Stetson, Jace, Blayke and Luke (Taylor); Eli and Isaac (Austin).  She was proceeded in death by her father James Morgan Coney Jr; mother, Clare Nolan Coney; brother James Morgan Coney III, and baby brother Nolan George Coney. 
The family will host a celebration of life for family and friends in the Houston area from 3:00 – 5:00 on December 29, 2023, at Lifebridge Church, 16614 Mueschke Rd., Cypress, Texas 77433
Kathleen will be laid to rest with her parents and brothers in New Orleans, Louisiana. A reception will be held from 10:30-12:30 Friday, January 5, 2024 at Mothe Funeral Home, 1300 Valette St, New Orleans, Louisiana. The reception will be followed by a gravesite committal service at McDonoghville Cemetery in Gretna, Louisiana.
