Kurt Joseph “Smiles” Gilbert
February 1, 1968 – August 5, 2012
On August 5, 2012, God gently embraced Kurt Joseph Gilbert and brought him home to Heaven. He was born in San Diego, CA and resided in Buras, LA. He leaves behind his mother, Lynda Chauvin Gilbert; father, Warren Joseph “Butch” Gilbert, Jr.; step-mother, Melodie Gilbert; sister and brother-in-law, Bonnie Gilbert Taliancich and her husband, John Taliancich, Jr.; 3 nieces, Alexys’ Blayre Gilbert, Gabrielle Marie Taliancich and MaKayla Lyndzee Taliancich; grandmother, Margaret Fountain Gilbert and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Preceding him in death are his grandparents, Rene Paul Chauvin, Sr., Ella Buras Chauvin and Warren Joseph Gilbert, Sr.
He graduated from Buras High School, Class of 1987. He took his first job with Delta Foods when he was 14 years old and during his senior year in high school, worked part-time with N.L. McCullough. After receiving his welder’s license, he worked for Fabcon. Smiles loved the water, working with Airboats, Inc., Cajun Boy Airboats, LLC and was an avid car racing fan. He will be sadly missed each and every day. We love you and miss you Kurt “Smiles” Gilbert.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at MOTHE FUNERAL HOMES, 2100 Westbank Expy., Harvey, LA on Tuesday, August 7, 2012 from 6 PM to 10 PM. Visitation will resume at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 28698 Highway 23 in Port Sulphur, LA on Wednesday from 9 AM to 11 AM. A Funeral Mass will follow. He will be laid to rest in Our Lady of Good Harbor Cemetery in Buras.
