Larry Joseph Pelas Sr.

Larry J. Pelas, Sr. passed away on Friday, April 5, 2013 at the age of 73. His final days were spent doing what he loved best. If he wasn’t fishing with his buddies or family, he was working. He was born to the late Sidney and Angela (Stipelcovich) Pelas on January 7, 1940. He was a lifelong resident of Buras and a native of Plaquemines Parish. He was the former husband of Millie Pelas and loving father of Larry Joe (Missy), Lori Ann (former husband Chuck), Mark Tournear (Carol), his companion the late Diane Walker mother of Casey McGee (Robert) and Kim Ledoux. A devoted grandfather to Toby Buras, Austin Buras, Cameron Buras, Ryan Pelas, Evan Pelas, Lauren Pelas, Kelsie Guy, Rachele Tournear Walley, Jeffery Tournear, Mark A. Tournear, Cody Tournear, the late Michael Tournear, Jordan Walker, Sarah McGee, Amanda McGee, Logan Martinez, Corey Walker, and godchild Jamie Lyn Otto Bennatt. Larry is survived by siblings Layne Pelas (the late Betty), James Pelas (Alice), Dale Pelas (Pat) and the late Sidney Pelas, Jr. and Gwendolyn Pelas. He is also survived and fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Mr. Pelas served in the National Guard with his best friend and first cousin the late Glen Stipelcovich. Larry was affiliated with oilfield, trucking, seafood industries, house moving and restoration. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Visitation at St. Patrick Church, Hwy 23, Port Sulphur, LA on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 from 9 AM until 11 AM. The Funeral Mass will follow at 11 AM. Interment, Our Lady of Good Harbor Cemetery, Buras, LA.
