Lawrence J. Rivet, “Pie” July 25, 1934 – January 14, 2025
Lawrence J. Rivet, affectionately known as “Pie,” passed away on January 14, 2025, at Memorial Hermann Hospital in the Woodlands, Texas, at the age of 90. Born on July 25, 1934, in Westwego, Louisiana, Pie lived a life filled with entrepreneurial achievement, unwavering dedication to his family, and an enduring zest for life.
A true visionary, Pie was a successful entrepreneur who founded several notable businesses, including Epic Divers Inc., Tastee Donuts, Whites Home & Auto, and Radiator King. His innovation, hard work, and commitment to excellence earned him the admiration and respect of those in the communities he served.
A proud and dedicated Marine, Pie served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. While stationed in North Carolina, he distinguished himself as both a talented pitcher on the Marine baseball team and a skilled boxer. His military service, marked by strength, courage, and discipline, laid the foundation for the qualities he carried throughout his life.
Beyond his professional and military accomplishments, Pie had a deep love for sports, particularly baseball, bowling, and golf. These passions brought him great joy and many cherished friendships. His adventurous spirit extended to his love of travel, which took him to various destinations and allowed him to explore the world with an open heart.
Family was the cornerstone of Pie's life. He was a devoted father to Dale Rivet, Julie Rodriguez (Roger), Lawrence "Larry" Rivet, Jr., and Ty Rivet (Jennifer Weber). His pride in his children extended to his role as a loving grandfather to Dale Rivet, Jr. (Rainie), the late Krystal Rivet, Tori Armand (Zach), Leigh Ann Benesch (Matt), Julie Ann Williamson (Scott), Ryan Rodriguez (Emily), Cherie Rivet, Nicole Rivet, Macy Landry (Austin), Chase Rivet, Christian Rivet, Tyler Rivet (Briann George), and Maegen Monte (Triston). Pie's legacy lives on through his great-grandchildren: McKalynn and Ryver Rivet; Spencer Armand; Ethan, Heidi, Lilliana, and Beau Benesch; Everett, Emmett, Ellis, and Eden Williamson; Claire and Audrey Rodriguez; Dallas Rivet, Lexis and Trey LeBlanc; Cheye-Anne Rivet; and his great-great-grandson, Phoenix LeBlanc.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marion Soniat Rivet King, with whom he raised four children, and his second wife, Marie Josephine Rivet, whom he married later in life and lived with in Slidell, Louisiana.
A visitation will be held in Pie’s honor on Friday, January 24, 2025, from 10:30 AM to 1:30 PM at Mothe Funeral Homes, LLC located at 7040 Lapalco Blvd, Marrero, Louisiana. A Mass will follow at 1:30 PM, with Interment at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Cemetery in Westwego at 2:30 PM.
Lawrence "Pie" J. Rivet will be fondly remembered for his vibrant personality, entrepreneurial spirit, and his boundless love for his family. His memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
