Layne "IKE" M. Pelas passed away on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at the age of 72. He enjoyed fishing with his buddies and family, watching Nascar and building trawling nets. He was born to the late Sidney and Angela Stiplecovich Pelas on January 31, 1944. He was a lifelong resident of Buras and a native of Plaquemines Parish. He was the husband of the late Betty Henry Pelas. A devoted uncle to Larry Joe Pelas (Missy), Lori Ann Pelas, Shannon Pelas (Stacey), Rachel Buras (Jonathan), Rhonda Eymard Becnel (Roland), Denise Eymard and the late Darryl Eymard Jr. and many more nieces and nephews whom he loved so much and many special friends that he always considered as part of his family. Also survived by a special companion, Janet Menendez and her children, Megan Wright (Justin) and Ryan Cosse (Sabrina) and their children. Brother of James Pelas (Alice) Dale Pelas (Pat) and the late Gwendolyn Pelas, Sidney Pelas, Jr. and Larry J. Pelas Sr. Layne built his first set of trawling nets in Captain Mark's Net Shop in 1967 and has been one of the most recognized net makers in the fishing industry till this day. He was a Louisiana Wildlife Agent from 1978-1990 and Agent of the Year in 1987. Relatives and friends of the family and Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Port Sulphur, LA on Friday, October 7, 2016 at 1pm.
