Lea Casey Billa passed away Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2012 at the age of 100. She was born on Sept, 12, 1912, the daughter of the late Robert and Lea Casey. Beloved wife of the late Joseph Billa for 60 years. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Loretta Stempel and M’Liss McCloughry. The loving mother of Marylea Kraemer, Mother-in-law of Fredick Kraemer. Devoted Grandmother of Jules Marc Sancho Jr (Julie) and Wendi Sancho Maddox (John). Proud Great Grandmother of Justin, Alexandra, and Julia Sancho and Marlea, M’Layne, and John Maddox Jr. Step Grandmother of Chad and the late Keri Kraemer. Step Great Grandmother of Katie, Michael, and Rachel Millot and Ailie Kraemer. Loving nieces and nephews and a host of good friends. Former owner of Mar-Jolee’s Bridals. Lea was active in many organizations. Founding member and past president of Gretna Historical Society. Past president of Les Dames de Timberlane, West Bank Lions Club, Knights of Columbus and Alhambra Auxiliary, Fraya and Pandora Social Clubs, Algiers Little Theater and Westside Business and Professional Womens Club. Past Chairman of New Orleans Spring Fresta and Girls Scouts of America, and Easter Seal Society, and former Girl Scout leader. Former member of Twilight Gardeners, Infant Jesus Golden Agers and Widows Support. Lea was also listed in Who’s Who of American Women.
The family would like to thank personal friends, Sheila Tyler, special care givers, Sharon Dean and Tyra Allen. Many thanks to Hazel Williams and Egan Hospice and especially Courtney and Joann for their care.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Mothe Funeral Home, 2100 Westbank Expressway, Harvey LA on Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012 from 9:00-11:00 a.m. A funeral Mass at St. Anthony Catholic Church, corner of Franklin Ave and Burmaster St., Gretna, LA, will begin at 11:30 a.m. with interment at Westlawn Cemetary.
