Lena Mary Debattista

Lena Mary DeBattista passed away on July 13, 2015 just 10 days shy of her 99th birthday. Beloved daughter of the late Joseph DeBattista and Angelina Mancuso DeBattista. Sister of Rose DeBattista Daigle (Bernard), Rachael DeBattista Edmondson (Louis), the late Rosalie DeBattista Daigle (Lloyd), Conchetta DeBattista Dubret (John), Salvadore DeBattista (Grace) and Joseph DeBattista (Lori). Lena is also survived by 19 nieces and nephews, 41 great nieces and nephews and 36 great great nieces and nephews. Lena was born in Ustica, Italy and immigrated to the United States when she was 4 years old. She was a lifelong resident of Algiers, Louisiana. She was a devoted employee for over 50 years at Waterbury’s Drug Store on Canal Street. Lena was a devout Catholic and member at Holy Name of Mary, Our Lady of Guadalupe and Saint Andrew parishes. Lena will always be remembered for her constant prayers for those in need and her special devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Our Blessed Mother and Saint Jude. She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority, Louisiana Beta Master Chapter New Orleans 191 and a participant in a weekly Rosary Group.
The family extends their gratitude to Joycelynn George, Laura George, Betty Jaminson and Jewel Brown for their loving care of Lena over the past year. Also to Andrea Centofanti and the staff at Woldenberg Village and the staff of Hospice CompassUS. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church, 400 Verret Street in Algiers on Monday, July 20, 2015 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. A Funeral Mass will follow and interment at Westlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, Masses in her memory will be greatly appreciated. Mothe Funeral Homes in charge of arrangements.
