Lionel "Red" John Rolfes

Lionel “Red” John Rolfes passed away on Friday, June 24, 2016 at the age of 82. Red was a lifelong resident of New Orleans, a 1951 graduate of Holy Cross High School and graduate of LSU in 1955. Red’s entire working career was in the Electrical Supply industry in New Orleans. He was a past President of the New Orleans Electrical Assn. Red was happiest spending time at his camp in Lafitte with his family or on the waters nearby with a fishing pole in his hand. He loved to tell a good story and his life’s journey provided him with many stories to tell. Red was preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years, Julia Virginia Roussel Rolfes, his parents Myrtle and Walter Rolfes, and his siblings Miriam, Louis and Lloyd Rolfes, and his sister-in-law Jane Chamberlain. Survived by his children Susan Rolfes Southall (Clarke), Peggy Rolfes-Haase (Greg), David Rolfes (Dawn) Michael Rolfes and Mark Rolfes (Tracy). Grandfather of Lindsay and Christopher Southall, Kelly and Caitlin Rolfes-Haase, Katherine and Emily Rolfes, and Faith and Matthew Rolfes. Red will be missed by all who were touched by his life. The family would like to thank the staff of Cannon Hospice for the devoted care of their father during his last days. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Visitation at MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 2100 West Bank Expressway, Harvey, LA on Tuesday, June 28, 2016 from 10AM until 1PM. A Funeral Mass will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday at 1PM. Interment will be at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Gretna, LA. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to any of the following charities: Catholic Charities, Covenant House, Smile Train or The Second Harvest.
