Lolita Concepcion Lua Schulze

January 28, 1922 — August 25, 2016

Lolita Concepcion Lua Schulze was born to Vicente and Carmen Concepcion in Balamban, Cebu, Philippines, on January 28, 1922; she was the eldest of nine children. After World War II, she studied and obtained a teaching diploma, and taught for three years. She married Chinese businessman Patricio Lua in 1947; they had nine children, one of whom (Patricio Jr.) died in infancy. Patricio Sr. died in 1960 in Cebu, at the age of 44. With the assistance of her parents and family, Lolita raised her eight children; ensured their education at Catholic schools; zealously guarded the unity of her family; and entrusted herself and her children to God's Providence and to Our Mother of Perpetual Help, to whom she had a deep devotion. She and her children emigrated to New Orleans, Louisiana. She remarried, to Raymond Schulze, who died in 1981. They had no children. Lolita survived the deaths of her daughters Iris Lua-Hernandez (in 2014) and Cherry Lua-Undag (in 2015). Her remaining six children and their families live in New Orleans; Pensacola, Florida; and Aberdeen, Scotland. She is also survived by twelve grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Her family were her greatest delight and consolation and she was devoted to their well-being. With great fortitude, Lolita settled in the United States, and fully embraced the new culture and people. Her courage, resilience, determination, faith, hope and love of God and devotion to her children and grandchildren sustained her, guided her vision and showed the world an example of a mother's unconditional love. Lolita died peacefully at age 94 on Thursday, August 25, 2016, surrounded by family, at Canon Hospice, Elmwood, where she received great care and attention. The family will receive friends and relatives from 9:30 am to 11:00 am on Friday, September 2, 2016, at Christ The King Catholic Church, 535 Deerfield Rd, Terrytown, LA 70056. Her requiem Mass begins at 11:00 am; everyone is welcome. Interment will follow at Westlawn Memorial Park, 1225 Whitney Ave, Terrytown, LA 70056. MOTHE FUNERAL HOME is in charge of arrangements.
