Lorena May Oakley

January 10, 1925 — December 14, 2012

Lorena May Oakley formerly of Kansas City, Kansas, passed into eternal life after a lengthy illness on December 14, 2012 surrounded by family. Lori was born to William B. and Lorena M. Eades on January 10, 1925 in Kansas City, MO. She married Francis H. Lawson in 1945 and had four children. Lori was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Francis in 1974, her oldest son Michael in 1986, and her brother William. Lori married Ray Oakley in 1985, who preceded her in death in 2010.

Lori is survived by two sons, Stephen Lawson and his wife Sandra, of Harvey, LA, Patrick Lawson and wife Beth, of St. Louis, MO. and daughter Kathleen Fulton and husband Tom of Overland Park, KS. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren: Matthew Lawson, Randy Lawson and wife Yulia, Ryan Lawson and wife Susan, Nicholas Whitlock, Jennifer Dawani and husband Karim, Meghan Lawson, Mikaela Whitlock and Katie Greger and husband Mark. Lori has 3 adoring great-grandchildren, Jazek Lawson, Ember Dawani and Macy Lawson. Lori is also survived by her brother Robert Eades and wife Peg of Omaha, NE, and sister Patricia and husband Bob Wilson of Lake of the Ozarks.

Lori attended Saint Aloysius Schools in Kansas City, MO and Saint Mary's College in Leavenworth, KS. Lori was in the American Legion Drum and Bugle Corps with her brother Robert, with Lori on drums. Lori had a joy for dancing from an early age, and continued through her senior years dancing with Overland Parks and Recreation Dance Club. She was a wonderful loving and nurturing mother and frequently volunteered as a teacher’s aid and PTA member and supporter. Lori lived her life to the fullest with traveling, swimming, going on cruises, playing dollar Cherry slot machines and staying physically fit. She loved collecting porcelain dolls and enjoyed sharing them with the little ones. Lori loved small animals, especially cats and dogs.

The family would like to thank Notre Dame Hospice for all the compassionate care bestowed to us during her illness.

A memorial service in Kansas City will be held March 23, 2013 at 1PM at Mount Calvary Chapel, 1150 N. 38th St. Kansas City, Kansas 66102.
