Lou Grace Michel Cantrelle

Lou Grace Michel Cantrelle, age 81, entered into eternal rest on December 11, 2024. Grace was born on March 16, 1943. She was a native of Harvey, LA, and a resident of Marrero, LA for the past 32 years. She graduated from West Jefferson High School in 1961, where she was a member of the flag team. For the next eight years, she worked as a long-distance telephone operator for South Central Bell in downtown New Orleans. On August 24, 1968, she married her high school sweetheart, Nelson J. Cantrelle, Jr. In 2018, they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Together they raised two children. She was a lifelong parishioner of St. Rosalie Catholic Church in Harvey, LA and a member of the Italian-American Society Auxiliary of Jefferson. She enjoyed gardening, particularly flowers and plants, as well as cooking and baking.

Grace is survived by her son Nelson J. Cantrelle, III and daughter Dawn Marie Cantrelle, daughter-in-law Chelsea Chapman Cantrelle, sisters-in-law Shirley C. McDonald and Agnes C. “Susie” Moore, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Nelson J. Cantrelle, Jr., her parents Thomas Andrew Michel and Rosa Savona Michel, father-in-law Nelson J. Cantrelle, Sr. and mother-in-law Sedonia Clement Cantrelle, sister Jacqueline M. Pace, brother Carlo T. Michel, brothers-in-law Andrew J. “Mack” McDonald, John M. Moore, Jr., and James J. “Jimmy” Pace, and sister-in-law Diane Matherne Michel.

A visitation will be held at MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 2100 Westbank Expressway, Harvey, LA on Thursday, December 19, 2024 from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM and on Friday, December 20, 2024 from 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM. The Funeral Mass will be held at Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church (St. Rosalie), 600 2nd Avenue, Harvey, LA at 10:00 AM followed by interment at the Gate of Heaven Mausoleum at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Cemetery in Westwego, LA.
